The avifauna in the landscape animal park Arche Warder

The landscape animal park Arche Warder in Schleswig-Holstein is Europe‘s largest animal park for rare and endangered domestic and farm animal breeds. In order to answer the main question of the project, which habitat the park provides for the bird species of Schleswig-Holstein, data on diversity of species and individual numbers as well as their distribution were collected. On the 40 ha of the park, the actual state of the avifauna was recorded from 10.03. to 20.06.2021 with a total of 15 counts, divided into four periods. The weekly counts were conducted in the early morning hours using the point-stop method. Abundance and dominance of respective species were calculated from these raw data.
A total of 3,844 individuals were recorded from 55 different species. The diverse landscape elements of the Arche Warder with its settlement structures, pastures, small forest structures, hedgerows, flowing and still water areas provide habitats for a broad spectrum of species ranging from synanthropic to field, forest and water birds.
