New sightings of the bearded reedling (Panurus biarmicus) on the Lower Elbe

During its rapid advance towards Jutland, the bearded reedling has been spotted several times in the Lower Ebb area since 1966; there were also strong suspicions of breeding in the Vierlanden/Hamburg area in May and June 1966 (NEHLSEN, STEIN, 1967). In April and December of the same year, several specimens were caught and ringed in the Vierlanden and at Asseler Sand (KLAEHN et al. 1967). The bearded reedling is likely to have reached Schleswig-Holstein by May 1966 at the latest (DIEN et al., 1967).
