The breeding population of the avocet, Recurvirostra avosetta, on the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein in 1969

The avocet, as a conspicuous field ornithological species that breeds in colonies, seemed particularly well suited to recording the breeding population as accurately as possible based on data from a single year.
To this end, I used the results for 1969 provided by the sources listed in the table, whom I would like to thank for making their material available. Where data for 1969 was missing, I used information from earlier years up to 1965.
