Abstract

The Reesholm peninsula, located on the Schlei on the eastern Baltic coast of Schleswig-Holstein, was a breeding ground for many waders in the middle of the last century. Not least due to agricultural activities populations – especially those of Lapwing and Common Redshank – declined dramatically towards the end of the century. Recultivation measures such as flooding, opening of ditches or mowing of reed and shrubs can be benificial for establishing a new population of waders.
