The diet of the common raven (Corvus corax) in the region of Schleswig according to an analysis of pellets

Abstract

Analysis of the pellets collected at the nesting sites and roosting places revealed differences between adult and young ravens in terms of the volume proportion of food remains. In terms of the qualitative composition of their food, young and adult ravens were very similar. In general, the raven stands out as a predator of mice and rats, which make up 75% (259 specimens) of its diet. Only 40 birds could be identified, 14 of which were gallinaceous birds. A total of 2,083 pellets were examined for their contents.
